The soles do a great job on greasy floors and rocky trails. My last 2 pairs of Garmonts and Patagonias were good but started falling apart in about a year whereas these are still going strong after almost a year and a half. If you are on your feet a lot and need great support (I have a hip replacement) these things are a must.
